Every once in a while, I share my spiritual cookies with you. Today, I am SO happy to live in a world of color. One of my current favorite things is the jumbled pile of fabric scraps in my studio, which includes a few commercial fabrics and many that I dyed myself. I’m still quite new at fabric dyeing and am using up my first attempts. All of these photos show works in progress. I will add a bit of hand-stitching to the 3 small “House Blessing” pieces after I finish attaching the labels, bindings, and hanging sleeves.
I am calling the process for the last two pieces “fabric collage.” It feeds me so well to place the scraps on top of each other and watch the relationships between the colors pop. When finished, I am expecting these pieces to be in the Healing Art exhibit I have coming up at the Hudson Hospital in mid-January to mid-April.How about you—what are your spiritual cookies this week?
I just love what you are doing here, Janet. Your artwork is inspiring. The highlights of my week include Christmas with family, a clean kitchen, a full fridge, and a full heart.
Thanks, Michele. The highlights of your week sound perfect!
Happy New Year, Janet!
I was so excited to see your sweet quilting because that is my love too! Michele Bergh and I were gathering with some friends this year to do art and I decided to complete a quilt that I had been planning to do for a long time. It was my first quilt, but I have sewn a lot in years past, so sewing wasn’t new to me. So I completed it in that group and discovered that I love quilting! I have always loved collage as my medium, but since doing the quilting my collage has morphed to fabric. I just love it!
My spiritual cookies this week was spending time with my husband’s family and getting time off to just be relaxed and slow. It has been so nice to catch up with life a bit. Thanks for writing!
Amy, Yes, I remember seeing a stack of beautiful fabric, maybe on a Facebook page. Aw . . . quilting: beautiful colors and shapes, tactile input, the smell of hot cotton when ironing . . . how fun that we have this in common. And I’m glad you had some slow time this week. Blessings!
What a beautiful quilt collage Janet. I love that you are trying your hand at dying fabrics. What a wonderful process you go through to create your beautiful healing fabric artwork. Just so lovely. Your House Blessings creation is so gorgeous. I love all the shapes and colours. I have not really done anything with sewing and quilting in several years. I don’t have the desire to work with fabric these days… but seeing your work truly warms my heart and brings such a smile to my face seeing what you are creating that is so healing.
My spiritual cookies this week, spending more time with family and enjoying the holidays. Blessings! xo
Suzanne, Good for you to know where your heart does not lie (fabric) so that you have room to follow your path. More spiritual cookies to you!
Oooh, I love your House Blessings fabric collages! They are beautiful. It’s exciting about your Healing Arts exhibit at the hospital. I bet it will help people feel better about their stay (or visit.) Hmm, a spiritual cookie for me this week was getting inspired to take a surface pattern design class. I’ve been making cards for a few months now and want to try more design ideas. Thanks!
Thank you, Dara, and how fun that you are exploring surface design!
Janet, these are terrific. I love how you have layered the fabrics and the colors are just so bright and bold. Beautiful, thanks for sharing
Thank you, Sue, I appreciate the feedback from a fellow lover of color!
