A photo of one of my art pieces was included in today’s Variety section of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Although the photo only appears in the paper copy, here is a link to the online article, which gives information about shows and events surrounding the 40th anniversary celebration of WARM. I’ll share with you the photo caption: At Robbin Gallery, “Hood Ornament” by Janet Hovde combines watercolor and stitchery into an ambiguous sketch of a woman atop an iconic car. Is she young or old, drab or beautiful, enroute to acclaim or trapped in a frozen wasteland? Only the heart knows.” (Mary Abbe, art critic for Star Tribune)
WARM is Women’s Art Resources of Minnesota. The House We Built: Feminist Art Then and Now is WARM’s 40th anniversary celebration including several exhibits and events. Maybe I will see you at one of them.
This art piece is beautiful Janet. You captured memories for sure for many. I recognize the older cars like this which don’t seem like that long ago, yet it goes back a few decades. You did an awesome job with this watercolour and stitching piece. Lovely! 🙂
Thank you, Suzanne. I know, it doesn’t seem that long ago, but this piece is based on a photo that is 55 years old. Thank you for stopping by.
Yikes! 55 years ago that was the year I was born. lol 🙂
This is great, Janet! Congratulations! I was just looking at the dates for your open house and sadly, I can’t make that date after all! I was so bummed! Me and my family are heading out of town that weekend for a downhill ski weekend, which I am very excited about but very sad to be missing your open house. I will check out the article, though. Perhaps we can just set up a date to meet and chat? That would be so fun!
Amy, Thank you. Have a wonderful time on your family ski weekend. And yes, let’s schedule time soon. I’ll email you.
That image is so light and beautiful. My vote is that she is in her mid-40s and she is sitting on top of the car awaiting a very big adventure. It’s a convertible and they just got it but she tied her hair back special because she’s never been in a convertible before and this is her first big car adventure.
Amy, I love to hear your vote. It is great to hear what people see in this image.
Wow! You are on a roll! Congratulations!! Love this piece. The car is so fun!
Thank you, Michele.
What an awesome image you’ve created! It sounds like you are doing some amazing things! Much luck on your continued success.
Thank you, Belinda!
I love the flow of this piece, janet. Perfect against the subtle wash of color. Congratulations on the publicity! xo
Thanks, Susan. Hey everybody, check out Susan’s site (Happy Daze link above) for some beautiful work.
Lovely piece Janet – and congratulations! I keep listening, wondering what messages she might be whispering to us from the past.
Deborah, Yes, you might notice this piece has a LOT of messages . . .
Wonderful art! Full of thought, beautiful colors, soothing and full of memories for many. What an honor on the publicity too! Enjoy.
Thanks for stopping by, Julie!
Love the soft colors. Faceless figures and dolls leave the viewer to engage how they want. Visiting from February Forum.
